IT'S OFFICIAL: YANKEES BRING BACK PETTITTE FOR NEXT SEASON
Forget about Phil Hughes taking up the fifth slot in the Yankees rotation because Andy Pettitte will be back in pinstripes next year. Pettitte agreed Monday to a $5.5 million, one-year contract. He can make an additional $6.5 million on performance bonuses and bonuses based on time on the active roster. “There was never another team brought up,” Pettitte said during a conference call. “I wanted to come back to the Yankees.” The Yankees rotation now consists of CC Sabathia, A.J. Burnett, Chien-Ming Wang, Joba Chamberlain and Andy Pettitte. Hughes and Ian Kennedy will be the fall back options. The 36-year-old Pettitte went 14-14 with a 4.54 ERA last year.
