SPREAD THE WORD ... VOTE NOW IN OUR BOYS BASKETBALL FIRST & GOAL POLL

[UPDATE: Remember the Fun. That's All!]

Our First & Goal boys basketball poll is hitting its stride with a great amount of votes so far and there is still plenty of time left to vote. So, if your pick isn't in the lead, or if you want your pick to widen his lead, get on the phone, send out e-mails, get your school involved and get people to cast their vote. If you do that, things will take care of themselves and we'll have a legitimate winner at the end of the week. Several votes coming from the same IP address will be deleted ... so don't waste your time ... it's too much work for nothing to come from it. As for everyone else, keep on spreading the word and get people to vote. And, as always, comment right here with your thoughts on the poll and who you think should win.

Modern Mech. is a company with several employees & they all have their own email addresses from the company. The votes should count!

stop trying to fix this.if u think the votes should count give brad the vote via e-mail and quit stuffing the ballet.

I said in my post that if I noticed a high number of votes coming from one IP address they would not count ... it is easy to spot. If you want the votes to count, I think the 4:27 poster has the best alternative. Have everyone e-mail me at bcarroll@bristolpress.com with the votes and I'll enter them manually. We're trying to keep everything legit here. Still, if I notice a high number of votes in a short amount of time, they will be deleted. This was supposed to be about fun, but certain people are taking that away. You guys are not the first one to have votes deleted, but hopefully you'll be the last. I want to keep the poll right here because it is easiest for everyone. I don't want everyone to have to e-mail their votes in the future. So, to everyone, one vote per person. If you want to get others involved, great, but have them vote for themselves.

Your making the kids look stupid by putting your latest update comment. Vote numbers are not acurate at all considering different friends and family have voted and they do not add up.

If you vote 20 times for one kid in a matter of seconds, and people see that, no one is going to give the kid any credit for winning. In fact, it will be just the opposite. It's the reality of the situation, whether you like it or not. But keep on trying to ruin something that was set up to be fun. Only two problem spots have popped up so far, but, I guess, you want to create more. Thanks for taking the fun away.

I can't figure out if Eastern wrestled Platt or Maloney yesterday...

Brad
Can't figure out what you are trying to accomplish by this. You should state that you can only vote one time. As I see you can enter evry day. If you don't want it that way you should have said so,or set it so you could only vote once. Once you start deleting votes you don't know what you are doing. If I were you I would figure a new way to do this!!

Brad,
Read your comment, you saw that 20 people voted for one person (or kid as you said) but all different email names!! Why didn't you read the names!!stiv

The emails don't matter in this; we track the activity by IP addresses. Emails have nothing to do with it. We know when people vote multiple times from one location, we even know if you’re using Internet Explorer, Firefox or Opera. So this has nothing to do with email and everyone should vote once and not spam the poll, we’re trying to get an honest answer from our readers.

This is as simple a voting system as possible. Every computer gets one vote ... there is no multiple voting. That is the way it is set up and always has been. The only way to vote multiple times is to delete a certain thing from your computer and either restart the page ... or disconnect from the internet altogether and then reconnect. The only votes that have been deleted are the ones that were easily detectable as fraudulent (and only twice). 100 votes in 15 minutes by the same person is easily detectable and was erased.

Again, people need to stop making this into something it isn't. This was not intended to be a source of controversy. If everyone voted for there choice, once, then there are no problems. There are only two instances where voting fraud happened and it was taken care of. If it happens again, or is happening now, it will be dealt with. That is fair to the other players on the list.

Again, this was something that was supposed to be fun and has been turned into something completely different.

The poll is getting out of control and is going to force us to only count votes that are not being spammed from certain IP addresses. If you’re spamming for yourself to win then do you really deserve it? Plus, your really pissing off Brad, you don't want to do that.

In addition to 2:59's comments. If I put the five best best players in town on one team today they would be Bayne, Holmes, Alston, Moore and Berlinski. The bench (let's say four players)would include some players not on the vote list (I know you can't include everyone)and some of the players on the vote list would not be on that team.

Brad, I got a call from a friend last night stating that somebody with no guts anonymously disrespected my son and my family on line. That person should be man or woman enough and put their name behind their quotes. I don't think that you should allow your site to be used as a place for personal attacks on student athletes. Your site said to involve family and friends and I, personally, voted one time only. Don't assume the Hasler family is "stuffing" the votes. My son, Jake, was very appreciative of being included in this poll; however, he is not fixated on the final results.
By the way, I think every player, many whom I know personally, are excellent individuals and basketball players. Also, many teams "do" build their clubs around unselfish team oriented point guards. And to you, James, if Brad is really pissed off at me or my family, too bad. GIVE ME A CALL.

BRAD CARROLL said...

A couple of things. First, we took who we thought was the two best players on each of our local teams and put them in the poll. (And I stress "we" because I don't want to open a can of worms about how a player was left out.) To 10:06, if you wanted to give me your name and town, I'll use your "first team" comment in the First & Goal page.

Second, the comment I think you're referring doesn't really say anything bad about your son, other than that the commenter doesn't think he is the best player on the team. He said he may be a hard-worker, but that doesn't make a first pick. I don't think there is anything wrong with that opinion. (But I will take it down because my goal was to stay positive.) I think you really took offense to the family stuffing the ballot part, but like I said and warned against, if one player jumps up a huge amount of votes in a short amount of time people are going to notice. Most people always believe that it is the families that get involved and ruin it for the players. It didn't help that a place of business was responsible for stuffing at one point, directly going against my warning that day, forcing me to not count their future votes.

This quote doesn't help either: "And to you, James, if Brad is really pissed off at me or my family, too bad."

James never said anything about you or your family, so there should be no reason to snap back at him.

And I'm not pissed at anyone, but I am frustrated that a simple poll question is causing so much craziness. I'm still in complete shock that something I did to open discussion among our readers and have fun talking about how good our local players are turned out like this.

ur definatly are missing some players in this list..... some shouldn't be on this list either

could choose a starting lineup it would be alston moore holmes mcintyre bayne...bench would be berlinski two terryville kids cannata n hasler

Anonymous said...

Have to disagree. Based on the numbers for the first half of the season, berlinski belongs in that line-up, not mcintyre.

Anonymous said...

the only number berlinski has over mcintyre is points and that is by about 2 points. mcintryre is averaging around 7 berlinski around 9..mcintyre does more on the court anyway

He is not even in the poll which means the writers did not believe he was one of the two best players on Central's team. How does be become a starter on an all city team?
I guess if The Press has a team at the end of the year we'll see.

shoulda asked the coaches of each team who they think the best players are.who knows the players better than them

Anonymous said...

Coaches need to be left out of it. They aren't objective - the writers are, or at least should be.
