If everything goes according to plan, the new era of The Bristol Press will kick off with Tuesday's paper. The changeover is supposed to happen on Monday, so the first changes you'll see would be that Tuesday. So, now's your chance to let me know what you think we should have in the sports section. I'm working feverishly trying to come up with some fresh ideas for a revamped section (some of that has already been in practice, as you may have noticed, with new page-headers and other things), but I'm open to ideas from the public. Do you want a reader's section with comments from the community? Do you want more poll questions on the blog and with posted results in the paper? Do you want more columns? Let me know. And this is more about extra, feature-type stuff and not cover more of my team stuff. Also, I'll be writing something for that paper about Southern Cal winning the GameDay National Championship. I figured that would be a good way to kick off at least one new part of the paper and something to continue with reader's having their say. I'll post the story that afternoon right here, so check it out.
And, on a final note, even with the availability of Jon Gruden (AP photo, top), it seems like the Jets are still focusing on Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator Rex Ryan. I hope the Jets at least bring Gruden in for an interview. The Jets already messed up big time with the way they handled the Bill Cowher situation, they can't repeat it.

I want columns by Ms. Meriden personally. Love her take on sports.
How about Red Sox Minute? A weekly update on the beloved Sox? Chowin' with Charlie Weis?
I personally would love to see a Celtics Update but I don't know if it's within your power....
Is Ms. Meriden willing to write for free?? Because I'd gladly sign her up! We'll see about the other ideas, but I think they might actually work.
Brad - Based on some of the back and forth this summer during the local baseball season, I would be sure to carry a number of teams and sports. Continue to make teams report their scores if they want them in the paper in cases where there is no reporter assigned to the game. Absolutely keep covering the local high schools and players who continue their careers in college.
Finally The Press should also have City All Star Teams like they did years ago. It is not too late to do this past fall season. The Courant, Republican, Register, and the CHSCA (State Coaches Association)all have teams. I know The Observer has already started and published their selections for some of the fall sports all area teams. Great ways to wrap the season and recognize the best in the area.
Coverage of the local teams -- BC, BE, St. Paul, Terryville, Mills. Do you guys cover Plainville or is that New Britain's? Consider working together with the NB staff to get more done. Features on kids. Can the college football coverage unless there is a local angle (Sorry Brad). Continue to run local agate that gets lots of names in the paper. Game stories and features on key HS athletes.
Can the big coverage of the Jets. No one is picking up the Press for that. Use the Jets as filler around your local material.
An area All-Star team isn't a bad idea, either.
