FINAL SCORE: St. Paul 40, Middletown 21 St. Paul rebounded from its first loss of the season last week to take down Middletown in a high-scoring affair from Bristol.
The Falcons led 27-0 at the half, but Middletown made a charge with a pair of touchdowns in the third quarter. St. Paul, however, weathered the storm and held on for the win. They are 7-1 on the season.
“We just played so poorly in the first half,” Middletown coach Eric Marszalek told Mike Letendre after the game. “St. Paul is a very skilled team and obviously took advantage of some of the mistakes we made. Being down 27-0 at the half is certainly not the way that you want to go when you’re starting a game. But I did think we played better in the second half. I think we played harder but we still made a lot of mistakes.”
St. Paul QB Brian Kaczynski was 13-for-20 for 280 yards. The senior made several key connections with Bryon Jones (3 catches, 90 yards), Ryan Moore (2-83) and Marcus Aiken (5-76) on his way to four touchdowns.
In the game, Moore also went over 2,000 receiving yards for his career.

“I was very impressed with the kids right off the bat,” St. Paul coach Jude Kelly told Mike Letendre. “They came to play today both defensively and offensively. We got up big at halftime so we (went into halftime) trying to maintain their emotions and things. That’s the thing about this game. There’s no quit in people who play football and Middletown came out on fire (in the second half) and our kids were ready to go, but not as the same level as the first half.”
But that early lead was enough to give St. Paul the victory.
