FIRST TAKE: CENTRAL, EASTERN BOTH POST IMPRESSIVE VICTORIES FRIDAY NIGHT

Bristol Central 44, Maloney 29
Central QB Dymetric Maisonet was the offensive star in Friday night's game at Muzzy Field, rushing for 196 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Rams to victory. Central improves to 2-8 on the season. Maisonet broke the 1,000-yard barrier in the game as well. He has 1,114 yards for the year and is the 22nd player in Central history to top the 1,000-yard barrier.
Bristol Central ran 72 plays in the game to Maloney's 29.
"I’m happy for the kids to finally get a win," Central coach Doug Pina told Dave Greenleaf after the game. "We worked hard and long for this and it was a long time coming but it’s nice to sit back and enjoy it."
Omar Gonzalez came up just short of the 100-yard mark with 94 yards on 13 carries before he was sidelined by injury just before the half.
Dave Greenleaf wrote in his story that the offensive line controlled the line of scrimmage and opened big holes and delivered key blocks. Maisonet ran frequently behind the blocking of center Tim Chambers, who led the way up the middle along with fellow linemen Tom Bentivengo, Kyle Seaver, Xavier Smith and Christian Jones. Tight end Mike Cusano, in addition to catching two key passes, was an important factor with his blocking on the outside.

Bristol Eastern 12, Platt 7
Bristol Eastern improves to 7-3 and earned a share of the CCC South championship for the second straight season with the victory over Platt Friday night on the road. Brandon Lopez had 16 carries for a career-high 101 yards and scored the game's first touchdown.
QB Dean Connelly was just 6-for-20 for 50 yards, but did gain 43 yards on the ground, including a 48-yard run to the 5-yard-line before putting up the go-ahead score off a 2-yard plunge with 57 seconds left in the third quarter.
"Dean made great intangible plays," Eastern coach Paul Philippon told Mike Letendre after the game. "Lopez has been a huge player now two games in a row for us. (Lopez) just plays with everything he has and he’s corrected some issues early in the year as far as ball security carries."
Letendre wrote in his story that the plays of the game came midway through the third stanza with Platt leading 7-6 with the ball on its own 44-yard-line at second-and-eight. On the ensuing play, Andrew Krom leveled Platt QB Kyle Laurendeau for a huge 13-yard loss while Josh Kimball followed it up with a bone-crunching sack of his own for an 11-yard loss to clearly steal the Panther’s momentum.
"Kimball just does it well," Krom said. "He moves well, he gets through people, he gets off of blocks and he’s a good establishment to the team. He helps me out a lot at linebacker."
